Admiral Asif Sandila to be CNS

Thursday, October 06, 2011 - Islamabad—The President of Pakistan appointed Vice Admiral M Asif Sandila HI(M) as Chief of the Naval Staff and promoted him to the rank of Admiral. His promotion to the rank of Admiral will be effective from the date of taking over.

Vice Admiral M Asif Sandila HI(M) will succeed Admiral Noman Bashir NI(M) who will relinquish the Command of Pakistan Navy after completion of his tenure. The Change of Command ceremony will be held at PNS ZAFAR Naval Complex, Islamabad.

Vice Admiral M Asif Sandila HI(M) was commissioned in Operations Branch of Pakistan Navy in 1975. A highly qualified surface navy officer who, during his distinguished career, has held challenging Command and Staff appointments, which include; Command of a guided missile Destroyer PNS BADR and 25th Destroyer Squadron. He had the distinction of being Director General Maritime Security Agency and Commander Logistics. He also had the coveted honour of Commanding Pakistan Navy Fleet during the period from Oct 2008 to Nov 2009.

His staff appointments include Deputy Commandant Pakistan Naval Academy, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff Plans, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff Projects and all important Deputy Chief of Naval Staff Operations.
