ISLAMABAD – Registration taxes of high end devices are sky-high in Pakistan, which prompted people to go for cheap and illegal alternatives, including cloning devices or getting registered with Fake IMEI, but it is the end of the road for those opting for such methods.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority PTA started operation against cloned and duplicate IMEI mobile devices, saying all such devices will soon be blocked in coming days.
The country’s top telecom authority aims to curb illegal mobile phone usage and prevent fraudulent activities linked to fake IMEI numbers. In first phase, mobile phone users will receive verification messages regarding their device’s IMEI status. Those failing to complete the verification process within a week time will have their phones blocked.
After successful verification, IMEI will be linked to the corresponding SIM numbers, ensuring legitimate usage. However, mobile devices with unverified or duplicate IMEI numbers will be permanently blocked.

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) advised mobile users whose phones get blocked to contact their sellers or visit FIA for assistance. Officials also urged citizens to always purchase legally approved, FBR-taxed mobile phones to avoid any inconvenience.
PTA warned against buying phones without warranties or those being sold at suspiciously low prices. Consumers are encouraged to verify IMEI number before making purchase to ensure compliance with regulations.
This initiative is part of PTA’s ongoing efforts to regulate the telecom industry and eliminate the circulation of unauthorized mobile devices in Pakistan.
