The Punjab government has decided to extend its paperless initiative to district offices to modernize its bureaucracy and save millions in annual expenditure, following the successful implementation at the Civil Secretariat.
This directive was issued by Chief Secretary Punjab during a video conference meeting with Divisional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners across the province.
Emphasizing the importance of technology in enhancing government efficiency, the Chief Secretary stated, “The use of technology is vital for the better functioning of our institutions. The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) must expedite the scanning of archived files to facilitate a seamless transition to the digital workspace.”
Under the new directive, all departmental letters and official correspondence will be routed through the e-file and office automation system. This system, already operational at the Civil Secretariat under the e-FAS platform, will ensure streamlined communication and record-keeping across all government departments.
The Chief Secretary further highlighted the long-term financial benefits of this digital transformation. “Eliminating the traditional file system will not only improve efficiency but also lead to significant cost savings, amounting to billions of rupees annually,” he remarked.
