KARACHI – Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi, on Monday withdrew from Sindh Assembly seat of PS-129 Karachi, saying the seat was actually won the PTI-backed candidate in recently held general election 2024.

He made the announcement in a press conference, stating that he did not want a seat in “charity” as it was won by the PTI candidate.

At the same time, he vowed to continue the legal and political battle to reclaim the seats where the JI was defeated through rigging. He said public opinion could not be stolen through fake mandate.

In Feb 8 polls, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman emerged victorious in the Sindh Assembly election for PS-129, Karachi Central-VIII, securing 26,296 votes. The runner-up in the race was Muaz Muqaddam from the Muttahidda Qaumi Movement, who garnered 20,296 votes.

The JI stalwart said that he accepted the PTI’s victory as its candidate got more votes.

The JI leader also announced that he would not take oath as an MPA on the seat. Calling his decision a slap on the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)’s face, he slammed MQM-P for celebrating the “fake mandate”.
