PML-N, PPP agree on two-point formula amid struggle for power

LAHORE – In a major political development, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistan Peoples’Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) reached an important agreement to form the government.

The sources said that they decided to form a formidable political alliance.

“The agreement comprising formulation of a comprehensive power-sharing formula for the central government,” said the sources.

They said, “this is a two point formula,”.

Under the proposed arrangement, in the initial phase, the party securing the highest number of seats will appoint the Prime Minister, who will serve for a duration of three years, they added.

They said in the second phase, leadership will transition to the second-largest party, with its nominee assuming the role of Prime Minister for a period of two years.

The PPP publicly affirmed its support for Maryam Nawaz as the Chief Minister of Punjab, highlighting the cohesion within the alliance.

A significant meeting convened on Sunday night in Lahore, bringing together the leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

Following intense deliberations, both parties’ leaders announced a mutual agreement to collaborate politically for the stability and progress of Pakistan in the post-general election landscape.

At the end, a joint statement was issued, reaffirming the commitment to prioritize national interests and prosperity above all else.

The leaders of both parties engaged in substantive discussions, encompassing the current political scenario and deliberating on strategies to propel the nation forward.

The joint statement echoed the sentiment of unity, acknowledging the imperative of confronting challenges with a unified front.

In their shared vision for Pakistan’s future, the leaders said that there is a need to assess the nation’s overall situation and charting a course towards stability and prosperity.

They reiterated their resolve to navigate Pakistan away from political instability and towards a path of happiness and progress.
