The workers of utility stores have on Friday gone on strike across the country day before the start of holy month of Ramazan.
According to details, All Pakistan Workers Unions have stopped working at the utility stores in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Multan following failed negotiations with owners and union. The Utility Stores Union president has said that the strike will be continued for indefinite time period as managing director of Utility Stores Corporation Umar Lodhi has not accepted the demands of the workers.
Talking to media persons, Umar Lodhi said that the department is not in the position of clearing dues of the employees because to loss. However, all other demands have been fulfilled, he added. On the other hand, the closure of utility stores has hiked the prices of eatables in common markets. The customers have requested the government to take steps for reopening of the stores.–Staff Reporter
