ISLAMABAD – The federal government has unveiled a sweeping relief package for electricity consumers across the country after it managed to convince the International Monetary Fund to utilise the money saved by keeping the petroleum prices unchanged for reducing power tariff.

Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad on Thursday, the premier announced a reduction of Rs7.41 per unit for domestic consumers and Rs7.69 per unit for industries.

As the relief package has been unveiled, details regarding electricity prices for different categories of consumers have surfaced.

Electricity Bill of 200 Units after Relief

Report said electricity consumers using up to 200 units per month would enjoy a relief of Rs1,028 per month, adding that their total bill would Rs2,459. However, an official statement in this regard is yet to come.

Relief over Consumption of 300 Units

Reports further stated that the consumers using up to 300 units per month would get a relief of over Rs3,000 due to cut in electricity rates.

Meanwhile, the government has set the rates for protected consumers at Rs8.52 per unit, down from Rs14.67, while the rates for protected consumers consuming 101 to 200 units have been reduced from Rs17.65 to Rs1.51 per unit.

For non-protected consumers consuming up to 300 units, the price has been reduced by Rs7.24 per unit, bringing the rate from Rs41.26 to Rs34.3.

For non-protected consumers consuming more than 300 units, the rate has been reduced from Rs55.70 to Rs48.46per unit.

The electricity rate for lifeline consumers consuming up to 50 units remains at Rs4.78 per unit, while the rate for lifeline consumers consuming 51 to 100 units remains at Rs9.37 per unit.
