UO students trained on shrimp farming

The University of Okara’s (UO) Department of Fisheries & Aquaculture, in collaboration with the Fisheries Development Board Islamabad, organized a comprehensive training session for the students on shrimp farming. This workshop will continue for fifteen days.

The Project Manager of the Pilot Shrimp Farming Cluster Development Project, Maratab Ali and Assistant Director Training, Muneer Hussain, along with the Master Trainer, Khalid Mahmood graced the event.

The opening session was presided by the UO Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Muhammad Wajid while Dr Majid Hussain and Nida Ismat from the Fisheries & Aquaculture Department made the arrangements.

Highlighting the importance of the training, Prof Wajid told, “Pakistan has an extensive coast line and an abundant of saline water. These conditions are ideal for shrimp farming. This training can help our students to learn the modern farming techniques that will enable them to earn reasonable livelihood in future.” He further said that by developing this sector, we could enhance our exports to a great extent along with meeting our domestic meat needs. He also thanked the Chief Executive Officer of the Fisheries Development Board, Muhammad Junaid Wattoo, for providing staff and resources of the training.
