MUMBAI – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday appointed Rohit Sharma as captain of the T20 team to represent India for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
The decision was made by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.
Jay Shah said that they (players) are coming after one year in the Afghanistan series, which clearly means they will participate in the T20 World Cup.
Speaking at a ceremony at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, he said, “Rohit Sharma has the capability; we all know.” The Secretary of the ICC further stated that as the player showed in the One Day International Cup when he won 10 matches, “I am confident that under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, India will win the T20 World Cup 2024.”
It may be mentioned here that in the final of the One Day International between Australia and India held in November 2023, Australia defeated India at their own home. Surya Kumar Yadav was leading the team. However, in January, Rohit Sharma excelled against Afghanistan, scoring a magnificent 121 runs.
