Like every year, the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust (SKMT) organised a polo cup to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection in saving lives.
According to the SKMT, Pakistan has one of the highest incidences of breast cancer in Asia and early detection is the best way for optimising survival in those diagnosed with breast cancer.
But unfortunately, lack of awareness on breast cancer in our country often results in this treatable disease being detected at a late stage, when cure rates are much lower. There is a dire need for continue awareness efforts to fight breast cancer in Pakistan.
This year, Habib Metro Lions won the Shaukat Khanum Pink Polo trophy after defeating FC Polo Team in the main final. The grand finale was held at Jinnah Polo & Country Club in Lahore on Sunday.
In addition to the polo match, there were a number of activities to entertain the spectators including a musical performance by the Quadrum band, scrumptious food, tent-pegging by all female participants, and many fun-filled activities for children.
Begum Samina Arif Alvi, wife of the President of Pakistan Arif Alvi, was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed prizes and shields amongst the winners and top performers.
Other notables present on the occasion were Begum Parveen Sarwar, wife of Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar, JPF Secretary Maj (R) Babar Mahboob Awan, and the management of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Lahore.
