Senate standing committee seeks complete record of agreements with IPPs

ISLAMABAD –  A Senate Standing Committee on Thursday summoned complete record of original documents of agreements made with IPPs.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee has issued directives to the Ministry of Energy, and demanded all original documents of IPP agreements from 1992 to date.

The Committee also asked a comparison of IPP rates with those of other developing countries’ power plants.

In the directives, the Committee emphasized the provision of details on the rates at which other countries are purchasing electricity from IPPs.

Furthermore, the details regarding the closure of IPPs due to technical faults in the past 20 years were also sought.  The committee also sought IPP shareholders and owners as well.

The Committee directed that records of capacity payments made to IPPs since 1992 be submitted. Besides it, the records of agreements and rates of wind power plants in the last 6 years have been requested, along with records of amendments in IPP agreements.

The details of power policy from 1992 to date are also to be provided to the Committee.

The Committee said that a report on the generation capacity of electricity after the installation of IPPs should be submitted.

A complete record of electricity demand and generation in the country was also sought besides the records of IPPs with capacities exceeding 50 megawatts of furnace oil and gas are also requested.
