Speakers at a seminar stated that individuals and the state both play a role in promoting religious tolerance and harmony.
Department of Political Science, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur organized a seminar on State of Parliamentary Democracy in Pakistan: Governance in Contemporary Times.
The Seminar was attended by students and faculty members from several departments of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur.
The seminar began with remarks from the seminar moderator, Dr.Safdar Hussain, Assistant Professor Department of Political Science.Dr.Safdar Hussain emphasized the topic’s significance and stated that democracy is the most appropriate and acceptable system of governance globally.
Prof Dr.Mahboob Hussain, Chairman Department of History and Pakistan Studies, University of the Punjab, Lahore, spoke about Sovereignty without Autonomy:
Understanding, Parliament’s Role in Pakistan.Prof.Mahboob Hussain stated that a contemporary parliament serves four functions: representing the voters, passing law, maintaining check and balance and supervising the administration through hearings and inquiries.
He examined the function and necessity of different amendments to Pakistan’s constitution, as well as their benefits and drawbacks.Dr.Fakhar Bilal (Assistant Professor, Department of History, Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad) began with a colonial viewpoint of Islam and democracy and said that historically parliaments encompassed many types of deliberative, consultative, and judicial assemblies.
He emphasized the need of Islamic administration in post-colonial states.Individuals and the state, according to Dr.Bilal both play a role in promoting religious tolerance and harmony.
Guest of Honor Prof Dr Rubina Bhatti, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, offered her insights on the issue at the end of the seminar.
Prof.Dr.Syed Mussawar Hussain Bukhari, Chairman Department of Political Science, ended the session with a vote of gratitude to the attendees and guest speakers.
He said that the students of our department can become the pride of Pakistan only when they are endowed with the wealth of tolerance and forgiveness.
The Department of Political Science of Islamia University is conducting social training of students in this manner along with basic academic growth.
