LAHORE – Students in Lahore, and other Punjab regions will get extended winter holidays amid extremely cold weather, and an alarming smog situation.
In a recent development, the Lahore High Court mandated another week of winter holidays in all schools as the region is facing the worst air quality.
In a written verdict, LHC ordered the education department to share a notification of an extension in winter vacations.
It said that the extension in winter vacations will be implemented in all educational institutions including schools and colleges.
The government in Punjab announced winter vacations from December 18, 2023 to January 1, 2024 and with additional holidays schools are slated to open on January 8, 2024.
Furthermore, the government also notified 3-days holidays for schools in Lahore as AQI touches hazardous levels, several times higher than WHO guidelines.
Amid poor air quality, experts warn of threat to public health, and elderly people and school-going children are having respiratory issues.
Students and people with allergies are advised to take special precautions to keep themselves safe.
