RIYADH – Kingdom of Saudi Arabia strongly denounced a tragic incident that unfolded at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany, where a car rammed into a crowd, causing multiple deaths and injuries.

In a statement, Saudi Foreign Affairs expressed its heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and the people of Germany, reaffirming Riyadh’s stance against violence and its unwavering support for Germany during this difficult time.

The attack occurred when a black sedan, driven by a 50-year-old Saudi doctor, Taleb A., stormed a crowded market, killing at least five people and injuring dozens. Authorities later confirmed that Taleb, who had been living in Germany since 2006, was known for sharing extremist views on social sites.

He was detained on-site, and Saudi authorities had previously flagged him. Police have stated that he acted alone and have ruled out any ongoing threats.

In the wake of the attack, Magdeburg’s Christmas market was closed as local authorities continue to investigate the motives behind the incident. German Chancellor Scholz called the attack “devastating,” offering his condolences and pledging support to the victims’ families.

World leaders also condemned the violence as incident reignited concerns over the safety of public events, particularly during the holiday season.
