LAHORE – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists Sanam Javed and Aliya Hamza have been granted bail in May 9 vandalism cases. The court took up the bail pleas of Sanam Javed and Aliya Hamza in three separate cases related to May 9 violence and approved bail.
An interim bail was also granted in fourth case filed at the Musa Khel police station in Sargodha. Earlier, the same court approved seven-day physical remand of Sanam Javed and Aliya Hamza on for the vandalism case.
Sanam Javed remains behind bars despite getting relief in multiple cases. She was also re-arrested by the police in a different case after receiving bail from Anti Terrorism Case. The activist is facing multiple charges, including vandalism, house fire on PML-N leader, and the Race-course police station attack, among others.
Pakistan saw deadly riots on May 9, as former prime minister and PTI founder was arrested at the Islamabad High Court.
Violent clashes also erupted nationwide after the arrest Imran Khan at the Islamabad High Court. Protests occurred in both remote and major cities, with armed forces deployed to maintain law and order.
During the protests, PTI workers attacked army installations and the Corps Commander’s house in Lahore. Additionally, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Ali Nasir Rizvi sustained severe injuries while managing the situation.
