Acknowledging the role of overseas Pakistanis in the country’s development, Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervaiz Elahi, who is currently serving as acting governor of the province, on Sunday expressed the hope that the right of vote recently given to them would enable them to return better candidates to the assemblies.
He was talking to Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) Saudi Arabia President Chauhdry Azhar Warraich in Lahore.
Pervaiz said that the Pakistanis living abroad were an asset for the country. “They are our ambassadors in the world,” he said.
The acting governor further said that the Pakistanis living in Saudi Arabia actively participated in the welfare-oriented and philanthropic activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhry Azhar Warraich said that he would try his best to come up to the expectations of the party’s leadership.
“I am going to start activities in Saudi Arabia in order to make the PML-Q a popular party among the Pakistanis living there,” he told Pervaiz.
Towards the end, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi also gave a shield to Chaudhry Azhar Warraich in recognition of his services for the party.
On the other hand, PML-Q Khanewal President Sardar Wahab Sultan has announced to join the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) as political activities gain momentum ahead of by-election in PP-206, Khanewal.
Sultan made the announcement at the residence of former prime minister and a senior PPP leader Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani in Islamabad. Speaking on the occasion, Gilani termed Sultan’s joining of the party a good omen.
Claiming that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was the only hope for the Pakistanis, Sultan said that only the PPP could steer the country out of the present predicament.
