The Rawalpindi Community Awareness Program (RCAP- a project of the Rawalpindi Medical University) being the collaborative member of VFHAT took part in first phase of Hepatitis B,C Awareness and Screening Camp at the New Teaching Block, Rawalpindi Medical University. Over 300 students were screened via Rapid Testing Kits, all of whom were found to be negative.
This screening marks the first camp in Phase-1 of the RMU Hepatitis Free Zone Project, under the supervision of VC, RMU, Prof. Muhammad Umar (S.I), Dr. TayyabSaeedAkhtar, Dr. OmaimaAsif& Dr. AsifMaqsood Butt. Students were informed of the hazards and complications with regards to Hepatitis B & C along with being screened on-site. Volunteers of RCAP have spread the awareness regarding one of the prevailing ailment in Pakistan. Future plan involves screening, followed by PCR tests of positive cases which will be done at the Centre for Liver Disease. Along with guiding people about the prevention of disease. Subsequent camps will be held for students in the coming weeks.
Rawalpindi Medical University is one of the leading institutions in Pakistan and it strives to extend its awareness programs on various diseases that are currently on the rise in Pakistan. Intensified efforts will be made to spread awareness and play pivotal role in the journey towards eradication of such diseases as Hepatitis in this project. RCAP has always been at the forefront to spread awareness regarding disease and prevention. It is our belief “ Prevention is better than Cure.”
