An accountability court delayed the indictment of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shahbaz Sharif in Ramzan Sugar Mills case till June 5.
Accountability Court Judge Amjad Nazir Chaudhry presided over today’s proceedings while Hamza was not produced before the court due to coronavirus outbreak in the country. The member of the Punjab Assembly was to be indicted on Tuesday.
The indictment of the PML-N leader has been delayed thrice as he was not produced before the court due to Covid-19 that has now claimed over 706 lives.
On the other hand, the court heard Ashiana reference on Tuesday. Advocate Nawaz, who was to appear on behalf of PML-N President Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to complete the attendance, could not appear before the court after contracting coronavirus. The court granted exemption plea to Shahbaz Sharif’s pleader Nawaz Chaudhry.
The court issued notice to NAB on the plea of co-accused Imtiaz Haider seeking acquittal and adjourned further hearing of the case till June 5.
In the Ashiana reference, 13 accused including former DG LDA Ahad Khan Cheema, Principal Secretary to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Fawad Hassan Fawad have been named. The NAB has filed a reference against Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz, alleging the former chief minister Punjab misused his authority.
