Rains, heavy snowfall likely in Murree, Galiyat, Pakistan’s other tourist destinations

MURREE – Rains and heavy snowfall are likely in Murree, Galiyat and other tourist destinations in Pakistan on Wednesday night, Thursday and Friday.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological department (PMD), a frontal weather system will likely enter western parts of Pakistan tonight. It will likely persist in upper parts till January 06, 2025.

Under these conditions, intermittent rains and gusty winds with heavy snowfall are likely in Murree, Galiyat, Astore, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Shigar, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Haveli, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Kohat, Quetta and Ziarat on Wednesday night and the next two days.

Rains and heavy snowfall may cause road closure/slippery conditions in Murree, Galiyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, Haveli, Quetta, and Ziarat.

Landslides/avalanche are also expected during the period. Tourists are advised to take necessary precautions and avoid travelling during the period.

Murree’s minimum temperature will remain between 00-02°C on Thursday and 01-03°C on Friday.

Meanwhile, cold and dry prevailed in Murree, Galiyat and Pakistan’s other tourist destinations during the last 24 hours.

Skardu remained the coldest place where the temperature dropped 09°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Gilgit was recorded at -06°C, Astore -05°C, and Chitral and Hunza at -04°C.

In Murree, minimum temperature dropped to the freezing point (0°C). Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 43 percent.
