Punjab to launch crackdown on single-use plastic bags on December 10

LAHORE – The Punjab Government will launch a crackdown on banned single-use plastic bags across the province from December 10.

As per the amended ‘Production and Consumption of Single-Use Plastic Product Regulation 2023’, the violators can be fined a penalty in the range of Rs5000 to Rs50,000.

Per the notification issued by the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), District Plastic Management Committees have been formed. Banned plastic products (below 75 microns) will be seized/confiscated besides sealing the premises.

District management and the Police across the province have been directed to cooperate/extend full support to the EPA teams in taking action against the manufacturing/sale/use of banned plastic bags from December 10 onwards.

Before the start of the crackdown, an awareness campaign has been launched which will continue till December 9. The district administration and Police all over Punjab have been directed to take appropriate measures to make the public awareness campaign effective. District administration has been directed to convene meeting with relative stakeholders for the success of the awareness campaign.
