On the direction of Inspector General of Police Punjab Inam Ghani and Additional IG Punjab Highway Patrol Shahid Hanif, PHP is taking swift actions to protect the lives and property of the people on the highways. PHP Headquarters has released its performance report for the month of October. According to details, Punjab Highway Patrol, while maintaining the tradition, has fulfilled its commitment of “Safe Highways, Safe People” during the last month. Different branches of Punjab Highway Patrol undertook various projects under different heads to enhance the capacity of the department, the details of which are given below.
Punjab Highway Patrol registered 3259 cases against criminal elements. 1431 cases were registered in PPC, 388 cases were registered for illegal possession and display of weapons and 16 Kalashnikovs, 31 rifles, 74 guns and carbines, 269 pistols and revolvers, 2268 bullets and cartridges and 68 magazines were recovered. Meanwhile, 380 cases of drug offenses were registered and 9616 liters of liquor, 102 kg 783 gm of chars, 24 kg 404 gm of opium, 1 kg 920 gm of heroin and 23 kg of Bhang were recovered from the possession of the accused. While commuting, 19303 passengers were provided help and 282 passengers were provided first aid. 53 missing children were reunited with their parents. Taking action against the illegal encroachments, 464 temporary encroachments were removed.
Moreover, PHP arrested 5 members of a dacoit gang also recovered an abducted girl aged 15 years and an abducted child aged 4 years and arrested the culprits. Besides, PHP recovered 4 stolen cars, 13 motorcycles, cattle worth Rs 590,000, timber worth Rs 45,000 and 180 kg of dead meat. In addition, 2 lost purses and 2 lost sacks of various items worth Rs. 260,000 were later handed over to the owners.
