LAHORE – The Punjab government decided to launch e-taxi scheme for the first time in Punjab for jobless people, the sources said on Thursday.

“E-taxi scheme will be introduced for the jobless individuals,” Punjab Minister for Transport Bilal Akbar was quoted as saying.

The minister said that as per the declaration of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the e-taxi scheme would be launched.  The provincial minister stated that the aim is to provide vehicles that are affordable yet of excellent quality.

“We are rapidly moving toward modern, eco-friendly transportation,” said the sources.

Bilal Akbar Khan further mentioned that the companies providing electric vehicles have shown strong interest in the e-taxi scheme.

Earlier, different companies have been running online taxies and bikes and other services for the citizens. Uber, however, had left the country last year.
