Dengue claims 21 lives across Punjab in current year: Secy

The Dengue hemorrhagic fever has claimed 21 lives across Punjab province so far in the current year, informed Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch on Monday.

He said that 279 dengue fever cases have been reported in the province during the Past 24 hours and most of the dengue cases, 204, have been reported in Lahore alone.

“Overall 1809 dengue fever patients have been undergoing treatment in hospitals across Punjab and in Lahore, 854 patients of the mosquito-borne disease are under treatment in different hospitals, the health secretary pointed out.

Punjab reported 459 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever on Sunday, out of which 335 cases were detected in Lahore, 64 cases were reported in Rawalpindi, eight in Attock, six cases in Khanewal, and five cases were reported in Gujrat.

Similarly, four dengue patients were reported in Faisalabad, Muzaffargarh, Okara and Sahiwal each, three cases from Hafizabad and Sheikhupura and two from Chakwal.

Overall 6,727 confirmed cases of dengue have been reported across the province till yesterday, while 4,874 confirmed cases of dengue were reported in Lahore.

On the other hand, Primary and Secondary Healthcare Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch reviewed the current situation of Dengue in province. He directed the Department to intensify dengue prevention activities and appealed to the masses take special care of cleanliness.

“Everyone should be careful about Dengue preventive measures and should not throw garbage in open places to check breed of the mosquitoes.

He underscored that precautionary measures against Dengue are very important and citizens should be more responsible in preventing Dengue.

Talking about availability of beds for dengue patients in hospitals across Punjab, Imran Sikandar Baloch said that 3,705 beds are currently allocated for dengue in hospitals across Punjab.

During the Past 24 hours, 298,916 indoor locations were checked across the Punjab while 67,308 outdoor locations were checked, while larvae were destroyed from 2,282 locations.

In Lahore 76,681 indoor places were checked for dengue larvae 11,537 outdoor locations were checked and 1,596 positive containers were destroyed.
