QUETTA — Pakistan’s sparsely populated region Balochistan saw mobile internet suspension amid beefed-up security measures in the region.

The provincial capital saw a suicide bombing at railway station in which two dozen people died and railways staff, while 50 others were injured.

The telecom authority announced the suspension of mobile internet services in Balochistan, citing the need to ensure public safety in light of the ongoing security situation in the region.

As the internet remains suspended, the telecom regulator did not specify which areas would be affected or the duration of the suspension, amid rising terrorism-related incidents.

The decision to suspend mobile internet comes amid broader security measures being implemented in the province. The Balochistan government is also working on a provincial action plan aimed at tackling terrorism, organized crime, and smuggling.

Balochistan saw surge in violence over the past year, with several high-profile attacks. In previous months, a bomb blast targeted police vehicle in Balochistan left multiple people injured, including police officers.
