LAHORE – Peshawar Zalmi beat Lahore Qalandars by eight runs in the 12th Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9 match at Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday evening.
Chasing a formidable 212-run target for the victory, Qalandars managed to reach 203/6 in the allotted 20 overs. Despite losing early wickets, Rassie van der Dussen scored a magnificent 104 runs to keep the hope alive for Qalandars. But he continued losing partners and the Qalandars fell just short of the victory target, Shai Hope scored 29 runs, Ahsan Hafeez 20, Sahibzada Farhan 15 and Jahandad Khan 13 runs. No other batter could enter the double figures. Naveen-ul-Haq bagged two wickets while Salman Irshad, Luke Wood and Paul Walter got one wicket each. Saim Ayub was named player of the match.
After being asked to bat first by Qalandars skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi, Zalmi openers Saim Ayub (88) and Babar Azam (48) provided a solid foundation with 136 runs partnership. Rovman Powell (46) and Mohammad Haris (12) finished the innings strongly to help Zalmi post 211/4 in the allotted 20 overs. Shaheen Shah Afridi bagged three wickets while Jahandad Khan got one wicket in the last over of the innings.
Peshawar Zalmi fielded the same side that defeated Multan Sultans in the last match. Muhammad Imran and Carlos Brathwaite replaced George Linde and injured Haris Rauf for Lahore Qalandars.
