Pakistan Railways will host a conference to discuss induction of rolling stock (passenger coaches and freight wagons) and their salient features/specifications, keeping in view the anticipated traffic volume on ML-I and GITA etc. The conference will be held at PR Headquarters in Lahore on October 10.
Rolling stock of Railways need to be upgraded in line with modern specification of robust design and enhanced speed.
Therefore, Pakistan Railways plans to induct latest passenger coaches and freight wagons to provide state-of-the-art facilities for general public by improving the existing obsolete infrastructure and inducting the new fleet compatible with modern specifications.
After a very long time, the Ministry of Railways has initiated various projects regarding induction of rolling stock in development budget as well as PPP mode. Current PSDP as well as PSDP Plus includes huge budget for rolling stock.
In current Financial Year PSDP, various projects are ongoing including induction of 820 freight wagons and 230 high speed passenger coaches. Several news projects, including 600 freight wagons for transit trades, are being initiated in PPP mode.
