On the orders of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Drug Free Punjab campaign of Punjab Police is successfully ongoing. Under the supervision of IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, police crackdown on drug dealers has been accelerated across the province and intelligence-based targeted operations are ongoing. The spokesperson of Punjab Police said that during the last 24 hours, 252 hideouts of drug dealers were raided across the province including Lahore, 93 accused involved in the heinous drug trade were arrested while 90 cases were registered. 39 kilograms of charas and 874 liters of alcohol were recovered from the possession of the accused.
Spokesman Punjab Police further said that during the special crackdown initiated on February 26, a total of 18,566 raids were conducted on the bases of drug dealers across the province, 8686 cases were registered against the accused involved in drug trade and 9190 accused were arrested. 6030 kg of charas, 31 kg of Ice, 103 kg of heroin, 216 kg of opium and 115458 liters of alcohol were recovered from the possession of the accused. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar directed the RPOs, DPOs to continue anti-narcotics operations. IGP Punjab stressed that targeted operations should be speeded up by marking drug hotspot areas in all districts.
