ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has constituted a high-level committee to evaluate the existing medical education system in the country and suggest necessary improvements.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar will convene the Medical Education Committee comprising Ministers for Economic Affairs and Law, Coordinator to the PM on Health, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Federal Secretary of Health, Special Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chairman Higher Education Commission, PMDC President, CPSP Vice President, secretaries of provincial higher education and health departments and VCs/Deans/Principals of leading medical institutions.
The committee will assess the demand and supply gap of medical education and recommend an action plan to fill it, review the standard of recognition of private sector medical colleges to ensure quality education, the phenomenon of students getting admission in unrecognized foreign institutions and propose policy options, suggest measures to improve the existing regulatory framework and establish a coordination framework between public and private medical institutions to ensure uniform quality of education.
The committee will submit its report within 10 days to the PM through the Ministry of National Health Services and Coordination.
