The Quaid e Azam Amateur Golf Championship held to honor the memory of our eminently revered Father of the Nation endorsed by ZIC Lubricants, contested over three rounds at the famed Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course certainly injected a wholesome touch of intensity to the competitive race for the title and noticeable was classy golfing by the top twenty performers. And the one who ultimately seized the title was a young one of Sargodha Golf Club ,Osama Nadeem who proved to be technically competent and showed excellence in application of golfing skills in each one of the three rounds. On the first day Osama had a round of net 72 which was backed up by a commendable round of net 67 on the second day and in the final round on Sunday ,he again played resolutely and without qualms to come up with an admirable score of net 70.Throughout the final round on Sunday when nerves did land the leader in difficult situations,Osama remained on target ,avoiding errors or flaws in shot making and instead maintaining a champion-like grasp over his game and the run of play.Osama’s aggregate score for three rounds was 209,net seven under par .
Osama was up against many robust adversaries ,but due to his prowess ,they could only end up fighting for the second position. Sixteen years old ,Abdullah Farooqi was one and young Hussain Atta another. As for Abdullah Farooqi( Lahore Gymkhana) he did make a charge in the final round on Sunday ,carding a splendid round of net 69,and though he could not obstruct the winning march of Osama ,he was successful in acquiring the runners up slot and in the process prevailing over Hussain Atta who won the third net ,his aggregate score being 218 net.
In the gross section the gross winner turned out to be Salman Jehangir of Gymkhana with three rounds scores of gross 74,75 and 78 and an aggregate of 227 gross.Second position holder in gross is Mohsen Zafar (Gymkhana),aggregate score being 231.Ahsan Khawaja (Gymkhana) came third in gross category with a score similar to that of Mohsen ,but Mohsen was awarded second position as his last days score was better than that of Ahsan.
In the ladies category visible was talent and the will to perform exceptionally well.
Twelve year old Bushra Fatima was at her playing best and can be categorized as a golfing genius ,to quote Dr Asma Shami ,Head of Ladies Golf in Pakistan. Her scores during the two rounds of competitive activity for ladies were amazing indeed.
A net 63 in the first round and a net 62 in the second round .It certainly was a prodigious achievement as it enabled her to win the ladies title. Another wonderful performance was put up by Alizeh Ali Shah .Her scores were net 68 and net 73.Third net was Iman Ali Shah.
