Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar has said that open ballot Senate elections will not weaken but strengthen democracy.
Terming opposition’s stance of opposing the open ballot against the democracy, he said there will be no midterm or short term elections in the country but elections will be held in 2023.
Talking to various delegations of PTI at Governor’s House here on Tuesday, Chaudhry Sarwar said that transparent Senate elections will strengthen the democracy and the Parliament.
Opposition parties should also give up their stubbornness and support the decision of open ballot in the senate elections; otherwise it will not be possible to get rid of horse trading. He said that horse trading is the worst form of corruption and democracy can only be strengthened by elimination of horse trading.
The governor said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has promised the nation that he will stamp out corruption because no society can prosper without eradication of corruption, supremacy of merit and transparency.
The government wants to strengthen the country whereas the opposition’s agenda is to weaken it. The government is committed to strengthen the common man and provide relief in every sector which is not being tolerated by the opposition parties. Despite the most difficult situation, the government’s economic team led by Prime Minister Imran Khan has put Pakistan’s economy in the right direction.
Ch Sarwar said that opposition should give priority to national interest over political and personal interests. The public stands strong with institutions including the government.
He maintained that all institutions including democracy and parliament will be strong in Pakistan and the opposition’s agenda will fail. The PTI government will complete its constitutional term and the upcoming elections will be held on time.
