Smart ID Card is basic identification document as it provides unique, biometric-based identity to all Pakistani nationals. It serves as basic proof of identity and address, simplifying processes across various sectors including banking, telecom, and government services.
NADRA ID Card ensures that government subsidies and welfare benefits are directly and accurately transferred to beneficiaries, thereby reducing fraud process. It is also important for financial inclusion by facilitating the opening of bank accounts and for tax purposes.
Pakistanis must renew their Smart National Identity Cards either before or soon after they expire to continue accessing various services. National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) oversees the issuance and renewal of these ID cards, which are crucial for tasks like opening bank accounts, purchasing property, investing, and securing employment.

As of September 2024, the fees is Rs750 for normal processing, Rs1,500 for urgent service, and Rs2,500 for executive service. The card is valid for 10 years, and the processing time for each service level starts after the application is approved. Delivery charges are not included in these fees.
