More monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls expected in Lahore, parts of Punjab

LAHORE – More widespread monsoon rains and gusty winds are expected in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Sunday night and Monday with occasional gaps.

Isolated heavy rains may cause flash flooding in local nullahs/streams and urban flooding in major cities during the forecast period

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate the upper parts of Pakistan at lower tropospheric levels. They will likely penetrate central parts of the country from tonight. A westerly wave also prevails over the upper parts of the country.

Under these weather conditions, more monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls and gusty winds are expected in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Multan, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa, Bhakkar, Layyah, Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan on Sunday night and Monday.

Widespread rains may cause flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Talagang, Chakwal, Mianwali, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Hafizabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, Murree and Galliyat.

Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Narowal, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Sargodha and Faisalabad. Landslides may disrupt traffic in the vulnerable hilly areas of Murree and Galliyat.

Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 34-36°C on Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, widespread rains with few heavy falls occurred in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and parts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Bahawalpur remained the hottest place in the province where the maximum temperature was recorded at 40°C. The maximum temperature in Dera Ghazi Khan was recorded at 39°C.

In Lahore, maximum temperature was recorded at 30°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 81 per cent.
