LAHORE – Pakistani wicket keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan is reportedly set to be made new captain of national mens’ team after impressing cricket board members with his leadership skills.
Sources familiar with the development said Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will soon appoint Mohammad Rizwan as vice-captain of the national team.
Prolific batter and star player Babar Azam was recently reappointed as the captain of Pakistan’s white-ball cricket team, ahead of the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand on home soil.
Rizwan, 31, is expected to continue his role as vice-captain even after the ongoing home series against Black Caps. The decision was made in meeting of captain, coaches, and selection committee was held at the private hospital in capital.
Islamabad and Kiwis will lock horns against each other in the second T20I at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.
Mohammad Rizwan
Rizwan play international cricket as wicketkeeper-batsman for the Pakistan national cricket team. He was born on June 1, 1992, in Peshawar.
He made his international debut for Pakistan in a T20I match against Bangladesh in April 2015, and Test debut in late 2016. Rizwan is known for his solid wicketkeeping skills and his ability to contribute with the bat in the middle order.
He has been a consistent performer for Pakistan in all formats of the game. Rizwan’s standout performances include his century against Australia in a Test match in 2021, where he scored 104 runs in a challenging fourth-innings run chase. He has also been praised for his calmness under pressure and his leadership skills.
