Minar-e-Pakistan was lit up in pink lights on Thursday night as part of a campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, also known as Pinktober.
The Pink Ribbon Pakistan-led campaign kicked off last night, where CEO Omer Aftab said, “We are here to pledge that we will defeat breast cancer together as our forefathers once pledged to obtain an independent homeland. Inshallah, we will succeed in achieving the goal.”
The campaign also seeks to raise donations for the Pink Ribbon Hospital, Pakistan’s first hospital dedicated solely to treating breast cancer in Lahore. Construction is underway and the hospital is projected to open in mid-2020.
“With the support of government of Pakistan, President House and other organisations, we are committed to not only spreading its outreach in society but also build a chain of breast cancer hospitals across the country and the first one is already underway in Lahore.”
He also pledged to increase the reach and awareness of the disease. Pink Ribbon Pakistan has previously lit up Mazar-e-Quaid, the FBR building and Faisal Mosque in bright pink.
