Desi designer and influencer Maria B is a household name for her chic clothing line in a brand-conscious nation, but the fashion creator continued to remain in news for all the wrong reasons.
Butt, who garnered online hate for slamming the trans-themed movie Joyland and trans rights actvists, now sparked new debate as a recent photo shoot of her brand went viral as it shows the ancestral graveyard of the Abbasi family located in southern Punjab.
As the clicks from the new designer’s collection Roohi were shared on social sites, a member of Bahawalpur’s Abbasi family pointed out the issue and called out the Pakistani designer for posting the clothing campaign filmed in their private family graveyard.
The Abbasi family member even warned of legal action against the famous brand for violating the sanctity of the ancestral graveyard. The family member, who goes by the name of Chang.Khan on social site, dropped stories showing models posing for the shoot.
As the incident garnered eyeballs and invited trolling, the clothing brand removed the pictures and clips and further shared an apology note.
The official Maria B page said the recent shoot for brand was planned and executed by a production house with the concept of showing our magnificent cultural heritage in Bahawalpur.
It further maintained that the shoot was edited and published without any prior knowledge about the significance and sanctity of the site. The brand is grateful to the people who have pointed out this mistake and we have taken immediate action by removing all the relevant content, it cited and mentioned heartfelt apologies to all those who were understandably distressed by this unfortunate incident.
Despite the apology, the incident sparked strong reaction from several social media users who blasted designer and even called for boycott.
