LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday sought replies from the both sides on a plea challenging recent increase in the fee of driving license.
Justice Sajid Mahmood Sethi passed the order on a plea moved by Ghulam Abbas Harl.
The petitioner specifically mentioned the recent increase in driving license fees and made the Punjab government alongside the Inspector General of Police (IG) Punjab as respondent in his plea.
Advocate Harl argued that the hike in driving license fees contradicted existing legal statutes. He also argued that the government lacked the authority to augment fees by imposing supplementary taxes, as its mandate primarily encompassed the administration of day-to-day affairs, not the adjustment of fees.
He asked the court to nullify the notification pertaining to the escalated driving license fees and issue directives for the issuance of licenses at previous rates.
In light of the said developments, the court issued formal notices to the chief secretary and the Inspector General of Punjab, along with other pertinent respondents.
The court directed the government’s lawyer to submit reply for the subsequent hearing, ensuring a detailed examination of the matter in question.
