Punjab Minister for Women Development Ashifa Riaz has said that awareness campaign on the steps taken in connection with women’s empowerment package has been done and incumbent government has set up 124-day care centres across Punjab.
Addressing a press conference regarding women’s development and empowerment on Tuesday, she said that the process of purchasing land for the Women Development Complex has been completed.
Ashifa Riaz said that provision of facilities is being ensured In Working Women Hostels, repair of new furniture and buildings of these Working Women Hostels have been completed in them. I.T equipment has also been provided.
To improve these hostels, the Women Hostel Authority Act has been approved by the Cabinet. She said, Women Development Department has launched a scheme to provide funds to the Day Care Fund Society for setting up daycare centres in the province.
The provincial minister said further that the department of WDD provided E-Commerce training to women during the code 19 period and a plan is being formulated for women s’ career counselling training. “Women were trained to establish peace and end violence from the plate form of Dukhtran-Pakistan. For the first time, the Department of Women Development adopted the slogan of austerity and celebrated International Women’s Day on March 7 and 8. Ladies from all schools of thought attended both events”, the minister said.
Ashifa added that we have created an implementation framework in collaboration with all stakeholders to pave the way for ensuring implementation of the existing laws. The Act is being revised and the fines are being increased to eradicate the crime of acid throwing. The media and the educated class must work for the protection of women and change their social attitudes in this regard. Free Legal Aid has been initiated by the government.
Secretary Women Development Ambreen Raza, Additional Secretary Women Development Asifur Rehman and concerned officers of WDD were also present on the occasion. A man tortured two boys for allegedly stealing wheat from his shop in Muzaffargarh, the police said on Tuesday.
The suspect’s shop is located in Shah Jamal where he sells multiple food items. On Tuesday, one of his employees told him that two boys in the neighbourhood stole wheat from his shop.
The man tied the boys to a tree with a rope and then beat them up with a belt. According to eyewitnesses, he let the victims go after they paid him Rs35,000.
A video of the torture went viral on social media after which the police took notice. The shopkeeper has been arrested and an FIR has been registered at the Shah Jamal police station.
