Lahore, Punjab weather update; more intermittent rains, hailstorms expected

LAHORE – More intermittent rains with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms are expected in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Friday night and Saturday.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), moist currents from the Bay of Bengal penetrate upper and central parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave prevails over upper and central parts of the country.

Under these systems, more rains with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms are expected in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Talagang, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Lahore, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Faisalabad and surroundings on Friday night. Rains are also likely at isolated places in Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah and Dera Ghazi Khan.

On Saturday, more rains with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms are expected in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Talagang, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Lahore, Kasur, Faisalabad, Okara, Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad and surroundings. Rains are also likely at isolated places in Bhakkar, Layyah, Jhang, Multan, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and surroundings.

Heavy rains may increase flow in local nullas/streams in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat and northeast Punjab.

Downpours cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur and Sialkot.

Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 35-37°C on Saturday and Sunday.

Meanwhile, rains with isolated heavy falls occurred in Pothohar Region and northeast Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Rahim Yar Khan remained the hottest place in Punjab where the maximum temperature was recorded at 42°C.

In Lahore, maximum temperature was recorded at 33°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 75 per cent.
