Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Friday said that the government has taken historic initiative of launching Kissan (farmer) Card which will provide direct financial benefits to the farmers in the shape of cash transfer besides encouraging them to grow more crops to feed the countrymen.
Talking to the media along with Provincial Minister for Agriculture Syed Hussain Jahania Gardezi at DGPR Office here on Friday, Dr Firdous said that farmers will be able to timely procure pesticides, seeds and other essential items by collecting subsidy amount directly from the ATM through Kissan Card.
This will benefit the farmers’ community in the province as a subsidy worth billions of rupees will be provided annually to one million farmers, she said.
The SACM said the farmers through this card will get subsidized fertilizers, seeds and pesticides besides loans and compensation for damaged crops in case of any natural calamity.
The Kissan Card will bring about a revolution in the country by making the life of farmers easy through the use of technology, enhancing agricultural production, and saving foreign exchange, she further said.
Dr Firdous regretted that agricultural development was not among the priorities of former governments who ignored farmers in their regimes however, the PTI government is bent upon paying special attention to this important sector which is considered as the backbone of the economy.
The previous governments had not bothered to assist the sector to boost the agricultural growth, she further said.
The SACM said the PTI government is fully committed to providing farmers agricultural support, besides resolving their problems at their doorsteps.
The need of the hour is to use the modern techniques for increasing the per acre yield, she stressed.
Dr Firdous said the NA-249 Karachi by-election has raised many questions over the institution responsible for holding fair and transparent elections.
The PPP used government machinery and resources ruthlessly to support its candidate in the by-election.
She regretted that the PPP shrouded democracy in Karachi by-election and buried it in a coffin.
The SACM urged the opposition to support the government for electoral reforms which are the need of the hour for a fair and transparent election process.
She said the Karachi by-election has made it clear to everyone that those who have resources and support of the government machinery can win the by-election.
The government neither used any resources nor used any coercive measures to win the Daska by-election and gave people the right of freedom of expression, she said.
The Special Assistant said the commander alone can’t do anything until and unless every citizen becomes a true warrior against the corona. The law will come into force where there will be any violation of SOPs.
The citizens should not test the patience of the armed forces and the government and force them to use any strict measures for the implementation of corona SOPs, concluded the SACM.
