Former prime minister and a senior PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday hit out at the PTI government for making the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) autonomous.
Talking to the media in Islamabad, he asked, “Has anybody weighed the consequences of granting autonomy to the bank? What impact will it have on the country’s sovereignty?” Abbasi also challenged the government to show the court hearings of graft cases filed against PML-N leaders live so that the people could know whether the corruption charges levelled against the party had any substance; so that the real character of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) could be exposed.
“These facts will come to light one day; if not today then tomorrow,” he said, adding that he, on behalf of the entire opposition, demanded that the immunity enjoyed by the NAB chairmen, prosecutors and the staff be withdrawn.—INP
