Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has reiterated that he will not contest the election on the PML-N ticket.
During a special talk with a private television channel Friday, Abbasi said that he has decided in principle not to contest polls on the PML-N ticket even if Nawaz Sharif says so.
“If Nawaz Sharif contests the election from my constituency, I will support him,” he said.
He revealed that he neither applies for the PML-N ticket nor would he run in the election even as an independent candidate.
“I do not agree with the current politics in the country. This politics is harmful to the country. I do not want to become part of this disorder.”
Abbasi believed that the upcoming election would bring chaos to the country. He was of the view that none of the parties would be able to get even half of the majority seats i.e. 176 in the National Assembly.
He said that the politicians who did not deliver should retire now, no matter if they are old or young. He said that he did not agree with Asif Ali Zardari that everybody in the PML-N is afraid of Nawaz Sharif. “Only those people are scared who want something. But the one who does not want anything from the party speaks openly.”
Abbasi said that all three major parties in the country are unable to solve the country’s problems. At this time, the country needs a new political party.—NNI
