K-Electric (KE) announced that 70 percent of its 2,100 feeders remain exempt from loadshedding, affirming its commitment to providing reliable electricity to Karachi residents. An updated loadshedding schedule has been made available on KE’s website, with further details accessible via the KE Live App and WhatsApp service. For the remaining 30 percent of feeders, loadshedding durations range from 6 to 10 hours.
KE credited improved bill payment compliance and reduced electricity theft for the exemption of several areas from loadshedding. Newly exempt areas include Orangi (Sector 14-A to 14-F, 15-A, and 15-B), Shamsi Colony, Feroz Shah Colony, Korangi (Sector 48-D and 48-B), and Shah Faisal No. 2.
Other neighborhoods, such as Baldia Sector 4-A to 4-C and New Saeedabad, have reduced loadshedding by up to 4 hours. Speaking on the development, a KE spokesperson said, “The improvement shown by various communities affirms the importance of timely bill payment and collaboration to reduce line losses.
We are pleased to report that areas like Empress Market and Ram Swami, which gained exemption in the last quarterly review, have maintained their status.” Since the start of 2024, KE has conducted over 21,000 citywide drives to remove illegal connections, seizing 220,000 kilograms of unauthorized wires.
The utility has also set up facilitation camps to assist customers in settling outstanding dues and transitioning to regular payments. Areas experiencing increased electricity theft and non-payment are facing extended loadshedding durations.
These include parts of Gizri, Nazimabad No. 5, Landhi (Sector 3-A, 3-B, 37-C), PIB Colony, and several blocks in Gulistan-e-Johar and North Karachi. KE is closely monitoring these neighborhoods and encourages community collaboration to address these challenges.
KE conducts quarterly reviews of its network to ensure transparency and evaluate progress. The company also pledged to work with community representatives and elected officials to enhance electricity reliability across Karachi.
