AmeerJamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman on Thu stated that the defamation bill is unacceptabl, saying that the Jamaat-e-Islami and journalistic organizations reject the defamation bill.

At Mansoorah, AmeerJamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman met with the Joint Action Committee of journalistic organizations.

The delegation informed the Ameer about the defamation bill.

Representatives of PBA, CPNE, AEMEND, PFUJ, and APNS, along with Managing Director of Dunya Media Group NaveedKashif and President of Lahore Press Club Arshad Ansari, were also present at the meeting.

After the meeting, while speaking to the media, AmeerJamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that they would compel the government to withdraw this bill by collaborating with journalistic organizations. If the government failed to succeed with four laws, it brought a fifth one.

He said that Jamaat-e-Islami strongly supported freedom of expression and rejects the defamation bill. They do not accept laws that suit the government’s wishes and demand the withdrawal of this bill, stating that its introduction is an insult to Pakistan’s 250 million people.

AmeerJamaat-e-Islami said that now even in America, people cannot be controlled, and the government should withdraw the defamation law, bring reforms in PEMRA, and abolish the PECA law.

Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman added that it is encouraging that journalistic organizations formed a Joint Action Committee.
