ISLAMABAD – Rains with snowfall over the hills are predicted in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Thursday evening/night and Friday.
As per the Pakistan Meteorological department (PMD), a frontal weather system prevails over upper parts of Pakistan. It will likely persist till January 06, 2025.
Under these weather conditions, rains with snowfall over mountains are predicted in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, upper Punjab, north Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir on Thursday evening/night and Friday. Moderate to dense fog will likely persist in most plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh.
Heavy snowfall may disrupt traffic by causing road closure/slippery conditions in Murree, Galiyat, and other hilly areas of Pakistan.
Landslides/avalanche are also likely in the hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree and Galiyat. Tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary travelling.
Islamabad’s minimum temperature will remain between 02-04°C on Friday and 03-05°C on Saturday.
Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will remain between 05-07°C on Friday and 06-08°C on Saturday.
Meanwhile, cold and dry prevailed in most parts and extremely cold in upper parts of Pakistan during the last 24 hours. Moderate to dense fog prevailed in plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh.
However, light rain/drizzle occurred at a few places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, north Balochistan and Murree. Snowfall also reported at a few places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Skardu and Gupis remained the coldest places in Pakistan where the temperature dropped 09°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Leh was recorded at -08°C, Astore -05°C, Parachinar -04°C, and Bunji, Gilgit and Hunza at -03°C.
In Islamabad, minimum temperature was recorded at 02°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 93 percent.
In Rawalpindi, minimum temperature was recorded at 05°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 75 percent.
