IG Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, on Wednesday reviewed the performance of Women and Child Protection Centers (WCPC) and the registration and investigation of missing children’s complaints were discussed in detail. The meeting aimed to streamline the efforts of various police departments in addressing the rising cases of child abduction, missing children, and related issues.
The session was attended by key officials, including the Chief of the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), Zubair Habib, and senior officers from Crime and Investigations, IT, CIA, and other investigative departments. IG Sindh directed that the complaints related to missing and abducted children be immediately shared through the Zara Alert platform.
The Human Rights Department will ensure the registration of FIRs related to child abduction and missing cases, alongside the follow-up of these cases. DIG Crime and Investigations provided a detailed briefing on the current performance of the Women and Child Protection Centers, covering issues like domestic disputes, child abductions, human trafficking, acid attacks, and other related crimes. As of now, Sindh operates 40 WCPCs, 7 women’s police stations, and 31 Special Sexual Offenses Investigation Units.
These centers will eventually be integrated into a “One Stop Protection Centers” system for better efficiency and service delivery. Complaints regarding missing children are received through various channels, including Police 15, Police Stations, CPLC, Zainab Alert, and Zara Alert. IG Sindh emphasized the importance of immediate registration of FIRs on such complaints. The CPLC will continue to coordinate with district police to monitor and follow up on missing children cases. The IG instructed the CPLC to share the data of missing children complaints with the IG’s Complaints Cell for further action.
