LAHORE – Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Markazi Majlis-e-Shura (central body) on Saturday rejected Siraj ul Haq’s resignation.
After decision of the central body, Sirajul Haq resumed his duties as emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan.
In a meeting chaired by Liaqat Baloch, the Deputy Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami, members of the council said that responsibilities should be assigned according to the past leadership.
The committee members including Liaqat Baloch, Ameer ul Azeem, Rashid Naseem, Professor Ibrahim and Asadullah Bhutto called on Siraj ul Haq.
Jamaat-e-Islami spokesperson Qaisar Sharif said that the central council had unanimously rejected the resignation.
He mentioned that the council expressed complete confidence in JI Emir Siraj ul Haq, who resumed his position.
Qaisar Sharif added that Siraj ul Haq would address the central council shortly.
“Emir Jamaat-e-Islami will continue his responsibilities according to the constitution,” he added.
It’s noteworthy that Siraj ul Haq had resigned from the leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami after the failure in the general elections. He stated that despite efforts, desired success was not achieved in the elections, thus resigning as Emir Jamaat-e-Islami while accepting the failure in the elections.
The spokesperson said that Ameer-ul-Azeem, the Secretary-General of JI, requested a meeting of the council on February 17 in Mansoora, where the situation after Siraj ul Haq’s resignation would be reviewed.
