Governor KP again seeks ECP consultation over polls date

Peshawar-March-6-2023–Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali, who was supposed to announce the date for elections in KP today (March 6), has on the other hand written a letter to the election commission of Pakistan for consultation over the matter.
Governor house Peshawar, it may be recalled, had received Friday late night the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP’s) letter for announcing election date in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP.

The Governor KP Haji Ghulam Ali while verifying that he received the letter at 8 pm but could not open the letter as it was sent in the secretary’s name adding the secretary was on leave, had said once he comes back on Monday then he will open the letter and announce the date.

However, talking to newsmen on Monday the governor said that he has responded to the ECP’s letter regarding announcement of date for elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that he has suggested March 7 or March 8 for consultative meeting with the Election Commission. He said that the Supreme Court’s order regarding elections would be implemented.

It may be recalled that Maulana Fazal ur Rehman the Secretary General of his own faction of Jamiat –e-Ulema-e- Islam( JUI) of whom Governor KP is the member, has a couple of days opposed the holding of elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab as per the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan and criticized the court decision. He also expressed his desire to prolong the Interim governments in both the provinces.
