Governor kicks off hepatitis free Jail program

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar Inaugurated the “Hepatitis Free Jail” program for all prisons of Punjab.

“Hepatitis Free Punjab till 2030 is our mission and Prime Minister Imran Khan is working sincerely for the national progress and prosperity.”

Punjab Governor Ch Sarwar stated this while addressing the launching of Punjab Hepatitis Free Program on Thursday at Governor House.

Punjab Minister for Prisons Fayyazul Hassan Chohan, Inspector General (IG) Prisons Shahid Saleem Baig, Special Home Secretary Zahoor Hussain, DG hepatitis Control Program Dr Khalid Mehmood, Usman Khalid, Rana Zeeshan Shabeer, Khaleeq u Zaman and others were present on this occasion.

The governor said that due to current situation in Afghanistan, Pakistan is facing a lot of challenges and in order to overcome these challenges.

“We should forge unity among our rank and file”, he stressed and added that every political party should prefer national interest over personal and political interest to thwart the nefarious designs of enemies.

He said that the incumbent government has been working to strengthen the institutions, which is unprecedented.

Chaudhry Sarwar said that provision of health facilities to people is top most priority of government and Sehat Insaf Card is the proof of it.

As regards efforts to control Hepatitis, he said that after Punjab and Balochistan Hepatitis Free Programs, now we have started the program to protect the prisoners in Punjab jails from fatal disease of Hepatitis.

He said that Hepatitis Free Jails of Punjab will be a relief for us and a great milestone in hepatitis elimination.

In order to keep record of it , biometric devices, vaccines and bar code stickers will be provided in prisons, he added.

Ch Sarwar appreciated the efforts of Hepatitis Control Program Punjab and said that all medical facilities will be provided free of cost to hepatitis B and C patients in jails, adding that every jail will be connected to nearest DHQ, THQ, or teaching hospital and ultrasound system in order to make this program successful.

“I am sure that this will protect the prisons from Hepatitis,” he added. The Punjab governor also handed over medicines and other equipment to Provincial Minister for Prisons and IG prisons.
