Government College University (GCU) Lahore on Monday decided to install a machine to supply sanitary pads to female students and female staff.
GCU Lahore has decided to set up automatic vending machines at its main campus to provide women’s hygiene products including sanitary pads to female students and female teachers.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi and Wonder Woman Pakistan founder Mohammad Uzair Masood signed the MoU.
A large number of female students participated in the function held at the newly constructed Women Development Center of GCU.
VC went on to say that it is very unfortunate that periods are considered as a bad thing or some ugly stain due to which women in the society have to face various problems without any reason, adding that with this initiative GCU’s Women Development Center is taking a step towards the empowerment of women students.
According to details, one wonder Woman Pakistan vending machine will be installed in the Women’s Development Center and the other in the Women’s Rest Room in Bukhari Auditorium from where female students can easily get high-quality products at low prices.
In Pakistan, 79 per cent of women do not have access to sanitary products, education and sanitation facilities from time to time.
Mrs Sumera Khalil, in-charge of the GCU Women Development Center, said that this step is a breath of fresh air for the thousands of GCU students who are facing many difficulties during their period cycle.
