Inspector General of Police Punjab Capt (Retd) Arif Nawaz Khan on Wednesday said that elimination of persons involved in international smuggling of drugs was the need of the hour.
A well connected and coordinated sharing of information should be ensured in this regard, he added. During a meeting with delegation of Iranian Police at Central Police Office, he said that it would help boost a process of breaking supply chain and net work of drug pushers.
Lieutenant General Law Enforcement and Anti Narcotics Umaid Sarwari with other senior officers of Iranian police were among the delegation. The IG Punjab said that elimination of drug peddlers was a top priority of the Punjab Police and joint operations of the Punjab Police and Anti Narcotics Force were being conducted in different districts of Punjab.
During the meeting, in order to take actions against drug smugglers, mutual sharing of information between the Punjab Police and Iranian Anti Narcotics Police was agreed whereas matters of mutual interests were also discussed. The IG Punjab appointed Addl IG Operations Inaam Ghani as a focal person for keeping close coordination with Iranian Anti Narcotics Police and directed that a close liaisons should be ensured regarding information sharing.
The Iranian delegation briefed the IG Punjab about modern surveillance system of its force and said that units of anti narcotics, cyber crime and anti-riots had been established in Iran to end crimes.
He added that mutual coordination of both forces would be helpful in controlling drugs smuggling and crimes. The Iranian police officers acknowledged and praised the martyrs and actions of the Punjab Police against terrorism.
